The transit system of British Columbia’s Lower Mainland area is getting a contactless technology boost. Current forms of tickets and passes will be replaced with smart cards by the year 2013. The smart cards will be pre-loaded and scanned in front of an electronic card reader for payment.

Contactless payment technology is gaining popularity. Now, BMO and Research in Motion have teamed up for a Canadian trail that will test self-adhesive contactless payment devices on cell phones. The contactless technology will work just like MasterCard’s “PayPass”.
